Haremlit author goals for 2026
Ever since I first started writing haremlit novels a few years back, I've treated this as a part-time gig. Basically, I:
- Wrote whenever I felt like it
- Did zero promotion and marketing
Despite this lazy-boy approach, my books have done pretty well, and found a considerable number of readers.
In 2026 though, I want to take things to the next level. Next year, the goal is to transition from part-time pro to full-time pro. I'll be approaching this from two angles:
- Writing - I'll be following a more rigid schedule and holding myself accountable with release dates, word counts, posts on this blog, etc.
- Marketing/Promotion - I'll (gasp!) actually be trying to sell my books! This includes launching an author website (you're here now), mailing list goodies (see the Secret Vault), posting on various free fictoin sites, and mayyybe even some social media. I also have a few other top secret plans that may or may not pan out.
More on each of those below.
Writing
I spent some time thinking: "What's a realistic-but-challenging goal that a pro writer would be able to accomplish?" After many long walks on the abandoned streets of the Japan, here's the goal I came up with:
I want to publish 500,000 words of fiction in 2026. This means releasing approximately 6-8 books next year, or one book every 6-8 weeks.
This seems fairly realistic, as it's only half of DSW's Pulp Speed One (one million words a year). But it will still let me:
- Add several books to Rise of the Corruption Mage
- Write bonus content for the Secret Vault
- Close out a few series (Monster Girl Catcher, Harem Hunter, etc.) that I've left unfinished for far too long
You can see a tentative release schedule on my Schedule page.
As for how I plan to actually make this happen, the plan is to write six days a week, every week. With no exceptions ... save one. After I launch a novel, I'm allowed to take a few extra days off (3-5). But this is only permitted if I'm ahead of schedule.
In reality the goal should be easier to accomplish than in theory because I have about two novels' worth of draft material that I just need to polish and get out there for you guys to read!
This is stuff I've been procrastinating on for years, so hopefully having this concrete goal will motivate me to get those things out there.
Marketing
I'll keep this short because I already hate marketing a lot and would rather not spend any more brain cycles thinking about it. Basically the plan is to do all the basic stuff indie authors are supposed to do, like:
- Keep a mailing list with launch updates
- Have an author website (you're here reading it right now)
- Publish frequently (publishing 500k words should easily let me accomplish this)
I probably won't do stuff like social media because I don't enjoy it and feel like it distracts me from writing, but who knows, maybe I'll change my mind.
Anyway... End post.
